The Greater Erie County Chapter of the American Red Cross assists the community in a number of ways. In 2008 through June 30, 2009:
- We responded to 70 local disasters, including 65 residential fires
- We helped 350 affected individuals and families with emergency food, shelter and supplies.
- We made over 5,500 disaster education presentations and distributed more than 15,000 informational materials to community residents.
- We helped people live healthier and safer lives. More than 19,000 individuals learned lifesaving skills in one of the 1,500 classes offered by the chapter.
- We helped reconnect ten families with loved ones in foreign lands.
- We provided emergency connections for 268 to military families and 750 other services to the Armed Forces.
- We made over 1,500 referrals to other human service organizations in the Erie area.
- We provided food to more than 250 families through the West County Food Pantry.
- We enlisted the help of more than 500 registered volunteers.
